Community ownership
Community ownership in MCC was established through an agreement signed by the six mine host communities in February 2008. This decision was based on the chrome footprint of each community across the Four Farms – Winnaarshoek, Forest Hill, Clapham, and Driekop, where the chrome resource is located.
It has been critical to ensure that the agreed community ownership structure is painstakingly respected and that the Makgomo Chrome dividends are effectively deployed to address the needs of the six communities.

What is Makgomo Chrome?
The Makgomo Chrome project, which was approved by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) in 2007, was started specifically to accelerate and enhance socio-economic development in the six host communities, more than what can be realised from PGM mining alone.
Through competent and responsible management, Makgomo Chrome has already generated substantial profits which have benefited the mine host communities through various projects as well as through dividend payments to the various Community Trusts.

MCC Board
The MCC Board has a duty of care, loyalty and obedience, all three of which are focused on ensuring that the company’s activities are, first and foremost, advancing MCC’s mission, which has always been to advance development of the six local communities who are shareholders in MCC. Board members provide strategic leadership and direction, ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, have oversight of finances and budgets, make informed decisions on project funding, and oversee the effectiveness of programmes and initiatives to ensure they are consistent with the company’s main goal, to facilitate sustainable and meaningful community development.
